The Headford Women's GroupThe Headford Women's Group was initially set up in 1989 because many
women working in the home with young children felt isolated, lacking in
self esteem, support, stimulation and access to courses in personal development
and adult education. The group was initially set up by running a course,
provided by the Western Health Board on women and health. In 1991 the Headford Women¹s Group hosted the first seminar of the Western Women¹s Link, and we were very proud when President Mary Robinson agreed to launch the WWL in Headford with 27 women¹s groups represented. The HWG has received funding from the Department of Social and Family
Affairs which has enabled us to run courses as diverse as Tai Chai, Swimming,
Computers, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, and much more. We have
also drawn on the skills of our own members to give demonstrations of
cookery, art and sewing and talks on organic gardening, oceanography etc. An average of 18 women attend each Tuesday morning in Headford Hall.
Members range in age from early twenties to over sixty five and the mix
is great. Many women have gained the confidence through joining the Women¹s
Group to go on to paid employment or further education - we have come
a long way since 1989! Many thanks Venetia McEllin For further information please contact Venetia at 093 35739 |
