Pegasus
Theatre Company
Pegasus
Players was founded in October 1989 by Liam Thornton and other members
from the Headford Drama Group. They competed on the One-Act Amateur Drama
Festival circuit in the autumn of that same year, winning the All-Ireland
Final with their production of “ The Death of Pilate”. During
the spring of 1990 they then performed “The Last Burning”
on the Three-Act Festival circuit and again they qualified for the All-Ireland
Three Act Finals in Athlone in May. They went on to win the Finals and
in doing so, made Irish Amateur Theatre History by being the first and
only group to win both All-Ireland Awards in the same drama season.
In the Autumn of 1990 the members of Pegasus Players under the guidance
of their director Liam Thornton decided to take the plunge and enter the
realm of semi-professional Theatre and in September of 1990 Pegasus Theatre
Company was founded. Their first production was John B. Keane’s
“Sive” which featured Anna Manahan and Des Braiden. Pegasus
produce two to three shows a year and have employed other professional
actors and directors in the intervening years. They have over the years
won a huge theatre following in Headford, Galway city and through out
the country. Pegasus will be back on the stage again in March of 2004
with a play called “The Hunt for Red Willie” by Ken Bourke.
